My photograph titled “Moving Pyre” has been shortlisted for the Hastings Open 2026. Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, in partnership with The blackShed Gallery, is proud to announce the return of Hastings Open – the flagship exhibition it founded in 2020 to celebrate the extraordinary creative talent across the South East. The exhibition aims to show a wide range of work that reflects different ideas, styles, stories, and experiences.
I was brought up on a farm in Aberdalgie and Dupplin Estate, just outside Perth, Scotland. My parents and grandparents farmed land on the estate for the better part of a century, though our family’s farming history on my father’s side dates to the early nineteenth century. From 2007 to 2009 I documented the people and places for my graduate project titled Dupplin.
My brother and mother vacated the farm as tenants in 2024 after a long period of coercion from the landowner. Anything that could not be reused or given to charity ended up in the skip or on fire. The last thing to burn was my mother’s couch. She died peacefully surrounded by her family on the 11th of February 2026.
