Macmillan Cancer Support commissioned me to photograph there All Out Swim 2016 charity event at Pells Pool in Lewes. The swim was split into four groups starting with the under 16's in the morning and progressing through 1.5km, 2.5km and 5km in the afternoon. It was incredibly impressive witnessing the swimmers brave a cold, outdoor pool on a fairly cold, cloudy day. The climate did not dampen the spirits of any All Out Swimmers or the audience though.
In most scenarios when you are the photographer of an event you tend to miss a lot of what's going on. In this situation I genuinely found the experience quite emotional. A lot of the individuals taking part were raising funds for personal reasons having been subject to the effects of cancer either personally or directly through a loved one. I believe the event raised over fifteen thousand pounds for The Macmillan Cancer Support, a worthy charity.
